"In my 40 plus years of golfing having
achieved Golf Digest Teacher of the Year, PGA Professional of the Year, and
Horton Smith Award winner in my home state of Connecticut, I have seen a lot
of putters - from its beautiful head to its awesome grip, you can't find a
better putter than the Quantum."

TEST YOUR PUTTER FOR SWEET
IMPACT CAPABILITY |
|

TAP
TEST
Hold
your putter loosely with one hand and then tap where on the head where you are
supposed to strike the ball – if this tapping causes the putter head to
rotate even the slightest, then your putter has no sweet spot and is not
capable of sweet impact dynamics. |
|

SPIN
TEST
Hold
your putter between the palms of your hands and then move your palms to and
fro to cause the putter head to spin one way then the other – if this
spinning wobbles even in the slightest, you’re your putter is out of balance
and incapable of sweet impact. |

"I came across your
website and have been reading it for over an hour and I am blown away! You
give the best explanation about putters and putting I have ever read and
that's saying something because I have been a PGA member for over 50 years
and active in teaching putting almost that entire time. Quantum is the only
putter that has it right."
Later he writes,
"There is no question in my mind that the science that has gone into this
putter is of the highest order. High on the list are the training alignment
aids that go with this putter, they are extremely valuable, plus you have
the opportunity to change the weights in the head, if you so desire. To say
the least, I am very impressed with my new Quantum Putter.

much smoother than they did with any of my former putters (Ping, Ping G5i

- the Quantum Putter is very efficient and I really enjoy having it."

"The Quantum is so different than
anything else that comparing it to other putters is like trying to compare
apples and oranges. My major concern about the Quantum was its negative loft
because so many were telling me that a loft was needed to lift the ball up
out of a turf indent; but that was quickly dispelled and to prove the point
to myself, I actually stepped on a few balls to push them further down into
the green and I found that the rolling launch still always occurred."

"I was the inventor of MetalWoods
and ever since I sold my company to TaylorMade, I have always said that if I
were to go back into the business it would be with a putter rather than the
other clubs in a full set. I understand perfectly what you said about
bending/breaking the shaft, and your analogy about heel shafting tennis
racquets made the point about how ridiculous it is to heel shaft putters. I
look forward to using my new Quantum Putter and I'll be happy to give you
whatever help and advise I can from my experience as a golf club
entrepreneur."

Here is exactly how to make a quantum
improvement in your Golf Putting Technique. Good
Putting Judgment is what
all golfers want because that is what sinks putts; but good putting judgment
cannot be gained without Good Fitting, and good fitting requires Good
Technique, and good technique requires Good Technology. Elsewhere we
talked about Stroke Technology,
Glide Technology, Impact Technology and
Launch Technology,
Fitting, and Judgment; here we are going to talk
about all the aspects of Putting Technique.
COACHES HELP YOU
GET BETTER
If you are any kind of basketball fan, you know that here in
Phoenix we have the Suns which is a very talented and exciting team to watch no
matter which might be your favorite team -- in fact when your team plays the
Suns, you probably would like to go to the game just to watch this very exciting
team of high-flyers play. Our Suns Coach used to play basketball in Italy
and was pretty good there, but have to wonder how he can be the coach of the
"all-stars" and "most valuable players" and "most improved players" and other
talent that are on this "high-flying" team - surely they are all better
basketball players than he ever was.
The answer is that the coach can observe what a player is doing
while the player cannot make this observation himself. Thus the coach is in a
position to be able to tell the player what he might be doing wrong or what he
could be doing better; the amount of playing talent that the coach has in
comparison with the player has nothing to do with that. So Coaches coach and
Players play and Coaches help Players play better. This is why Phil Mickelson,
our home town golfing star, can be coached by obscure teaching professionals;
and this is why even if you are Tiger Woods, we can coach you at least in
general technique. So let's get started.
There are three aspects of Putting
Technique that golfers need to work on:
Stroke Alignment
As the power vector (putter shaft) moves during a putting
stroke, it defines a "plane of movement" which intersects with the ground plane
to make a line and that line should be coincident with the intended direction of
the ball launch. We discussed this subject in the previous topic of TECHNOLOGY
where we learned the importance putter MASS, but now we are going to attack this
subject from the viewpoint of putting TECHNIQUE.
If your Plane of Movement intersects with the Ground Plane such
that it makes a curve instead of a line (the "barn door swing" does
this),
then you are severely reducing the probability of a ball launch that is in the
intended direction. This flaw in technique needs to be corrected in order to
perfect your putting performance. Your Teaching Pro can help you with all this
but in the meantime you could try the following:
-
Move in a little closer to the ball
in your putting stance - a more upright stance is less prone to a "barn door
swing" and more prone to a proper "pendulum swing".
-
Try to stroking with shoulder/arm
movement and keeping your hips/lower body from moving during the stroke -- it
is mostly the hip movement that causes the "barn-door-swing".
-
Don't look at the hole during your
setup, instead set your eyes on the direction of launch -- it is launch
direction that is important in stroke alignment, not location of the hole.
If your Stroke wavers then your "Plane of Movement" will be wavy
instead of straight. When this wavy form intersects with the ground plane,
the result is a wavy line instead of a straight line. A wavy line can
never be coincident with the straight line of launch direction, so under these
conditions, precision putting is an impossibility. A heavier putter, as we
discussed in the previous topic of TECHNOLOGY, will help and that plus more putting practice and better
physical conditioning should solve this putting problem.
X-Y-Z Alignment
For a Perfect Launch, the Putter Head must be in Perfect X-Y-Z
Alignment at the moment of impact. Here is what that means:
-
X-ALIGNMENT -- The Line drawn through
the Center of Gravity of the Putter Head from the Front to the Back is called
the X-Line, and when this X-Line is coincident with the Direction of Launch
at the moment of impact, then you have what is called Perfect X-Alignment.
-
Y-ALIGNMENT -- The Line drawn through
the Center of Gravity of the Putter Head from the Top to the Bottom is called
the Y-Line, and when this Y-Line is perpendicular with the Ground-Plane at the
moment of impact, then
you have what is called Perfect Y-Alignment.
-
Z-ALIGNMENT -- The Line drawn through
the Center of Gravity of the Putter Head from the Toe to the Heel is called
the Z-Line, and when this Z-Line is parallel to the Ground-Plane at the moment
of impact, then you
have what is called Perfect Z-Alignment.
-
PERFECT X-Y-Z ALIGNMENT -- This means
you have Perfect X-Alignment and Perfect Y-Alignment and Perfect Z-Alignment.
When you don't have Perfect
X-Alignment, the ball will launch with an adverse lateral spin and veer off your
desired Direction of Launch -- of course that is adverse to putting precision.
When you don't have Perfect
Y-Alignment, the desired topspin bounceless launch will not be achieved
(actually unless you are using a Quantum Putter you will never achieve a topspin
bounceless launch no matter what your Y-Alignment is anyway; this because we
have yet to find another putter which is correctly engineered for this purpose).
When you don't have Perfect
Z-Alignment, your Putting Glide is prone to "Toe Bite" or "Heel Bite". Toe
Bite will open your X-Alignment just before Launch; Heel Bite will close your
X-Alignment just before Launch; and either of course destroys your putting
precision.
Sweet Impact
Sweet Impact occurs when the Center of Gravity of a Balanced
Putter impacts the Center of Gravity of the Ball with Perfect X-Y-Z Alignment.
If your current putter is not a Quantum, then most likely is not a Balanced
Putter (do the Spin Test and the Tap Test described in the previous topic of
TECHNOLOGY to find out), and when a putter is not a Balanced Putter, Sweet
Impact is impossible.
Without Sweet Impact, precision putting is impossible. Why?
Because Sour Impact (the opposite of Sweet Impact) will cause the Z-Alignment to
torque open upon Impact and that will result in a Ball Launch off your Desired
Direction and also impart an adverse spin upon the ball which will veer the ball
off Desired Direction even further.
With Sweet Impact, precision putting is possible. The Putter
Head will remain in Perfect X-Y-Z Alignment through Impact and the Ball will be
Launched in your Desired Direction without any adverse lateral spin.
SUMMARY
What all golfers want
is good putting judgment because that is what sinks putts. But good putting
judgment is not possible without good fitting and good fitting requires
good
technique, and good technique requires good technology.
QUANTUM PUTTER TECHNOLOGY IS THE BEST PUTTER TECHNOLOGY
SO THAT IS WHERE IT ALL STARTS.
