If
you ask us which putter is the best, naturally we would say it is the Quantum
Putter because we sincerely believe facts and scientific truth bear that out.
but, if you ask us which putter maker offers the widest variety of putters, we would tell you it is
Ping.
According to their public website
(www.pinggolf.com), as of our last check on 4/7/2008, Ping Golf offers
the following putter lines: the i-Series with 10 models; the Redwood
Series with 5 models; the Karsten Series with 7 models; the Craz-e
One; the G5i Series with 14 models; the G2 Series with 20
models; he Udrainium Series with 6 models; the Classic Series with 15 models.
 That
is an astounding 78 putters in the Ping putter line! Do you think they might be
making putters for collectors instead of golfers?
It would seem that Ping considers their Craz-e One to be their best putter, it
is in a category by itself, it is their newest putter, it is their highest priced putter, and they tout it
as the highest MOI putter on the market today (MOI is a very important selling
point to Ping, although a perfectly designed putter is in no need of any MOI
whatsoever). So this is the putter we
will use in this Feature/Benefit Comparison.
FEATURE/BENEFIT COMPARISON
Comparison Stipulation -- Obviously it is
dangerous for us to do a public comparison of the Quantum Putter with any other
named putter because of the risk of litigation, however facts and truth
are always an absolute defense. So as long as we are careful to do our comparison on
that basis, we feel relatively safe in giving you the benefit of such a
comparison. Besides, whenever a comparison call was close, we always gave
our competitor the benefit of the doubt. It is our

PING IS CHEAPER BY $125
According the the various websites
where Ping Putters are sold (the Ping Website does not give
pricing), the Ping Craz-E One can be purchased for about $270.
The price of the
Quantum is $395. So this Ping putter is cheaper than the
Quantum by $125. But while price might be the
predominate factor for beginners and many happy-go-lucky
recreational golfers, avid amateurs and professional golfers
will always regard relative value and performance far more than absolute price.
VALUE COMPARISON -
QUANTUM WINS BY $204
The Quantum wins the
Feature/Benefit Comparison 18 to 3. To find the Comparative Value,
you divide
the price of the Quantum ($395) by the number of features it has
(18) to get the Value Quotient of $22 per feature. Next multiply
the number of features the Ping has (3) by the value quotient
($22) and you get the Comparative Value of the Ping Putter
which is $66. In other words, if the Quantum Putter is worth
$395, then this Ping Putter is by comparison worth $66. So at their
$270 Retail Price, this Ping Putter is overvalued by $204 ($270-66)
and the Quantum Putter is a better value by that amount.
PERFORMANCE COMPARISON
- QUANTUM WINS BY FIFTEEN POINTS
The Quantum Putter scores a perfect 18
on performance while the Ping scores only 3 Performance points,
so when you deduct the pushes the Quantum beats Ping fifteen to zip.
