INVENTING A NEW AND IMPROVED GOLF PUTTER   

Development of a new and improved golf putter involves the integrated effort of several disciplines.

• A good Analyst can look at the putting tool for a while and before long discover that it embodies twenty-one distinct features and requires four distinct alignments for proper usage.  And...

Many club-makers skimp on this costly research and development process and instead simply hire a fashion designer to tell the engineer what to make based upon stylish eye appeal and current market trends. Their main objective is to support persuasive advertisers and slick salespeople with profit being their goal, not performance. Bluntly speaking, they couldn’t care less about the needs of the golfer, and sadly all too often they succeed in suckering golfers into buying their stylish stuff. Of course, most golfers are not analysts, or physicists, or physiologists, or engineers, or manufacturers, or marketers; so they tend not to be interested in all the technical details of putter technology. So I am going to convey some important points to you in the easiest possible way - by analogy.

 

Would you try to play tennis with a racquet like the one on the left? Of course not! So why would you try to putt with a putter that looks like the one on the right?

• A shaft which is misaligned with the center of gravity of the impacting head is superior to one with perfect power vector alignment.

Scratching the Surface

We are just scratching the surface on all the misconceptions the “persuaders” have foisted on golfers in recent years.  I am willing to uncover it all, but I don’t want to risk loosing your interest by overwhelming you with too much information too soon.

Some golfers want to know the high points of technology and others want to know it all, so there are different kinds of audiences for the information I want to present here on this website and that is a challenge for me. Too much information, and I risk loosing the interest of golfers who simply want to enjoy the results of my work; too little and I risk not satisfying the more curious, who are seriously seeking the best putter and want to know more about the difference between good and bad putters.

Back in the early days of “big retail”, Sears™ would line up three, similar products in a row, and above each would be a sign saying either “Good”, “Better”, “Best”. This was a tremendous help to consumers because it helped them organize their thinking which in turn made purchase decisions easier - it was a better way for both the shopper and the seller. So I am going to use that same approach as I answer the question that is on everybody’s mind.

MY GOOD ANSWER
