Round Two:  "Float like a Butterfly"

The Contender must be capable of Good Glide over the Green before ball impact in order to survive Round Two of the Comparison - as Ali would say, "Float like a Butterfly"

.

The three leading factors detrimental to good glide across the green during a putting stroke are: 1) Leading Edge Bite, 2) Toe Bite, and 3) Heel Bite. If the putter's leading edge is too sharp (as is the trend lately because putter designers think that looks nicer) then the putter will have a tendency to "bite" the nap of the green during glide and that will cause an unexpected slowing or even stopping of glide just before impact - of course this is very detrimental to precision putting.  If the putter is not rounded over on the ends and does not have a slight rounding from end to end, then it will also be prone to toe and heel bite; toe bite will happen when toe end of the putter touches the green before the rest of the sole and that causes the putter face to "open" just before impact; heel bite will happen when the heel end touches first and that causes the putter face to "close" just before impact - either of which is very detrimental to precision putting.

SO IF THE CONTENDER IS PRONE TO GREEN BITE,
IT WILL NOT "FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY" AND IT LOOSES IN ROUND 2.

If the contender has excessive face to back dimension, as most mallets do, then it will also suffer trailing edge bounce. Trailing edge bounce occurs when trailing edge of the putter hits the green during the stroke, causing the leading edge to unexpectedly lunge upward at impact - of course this is detrimental to precision putting.

SO IF THE CONTENDER IS PRONE TO TRAILING EDGE BOUNCE,
IT WILL NOT "FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY" AND IT LOOSES IN ROUND 2.

If the contender has excessive sole area, as most mallets do, then it will suffer excessive friction; and if it has any edges that do not run perfectly parallel to the direction of the stroke, then it will also suffer misalignment forces that cause head twist just before impact - of course both are detrimental to precision putting.

SO IF THE CONTENDER HAS A BIG FOOTPRINT AND ANY TREAD THAT RUNS AGAINST THE GRAIN OF THE STROKE, IT WILL NOT "FLOAT LIKE A BUTTERFLY" AND IT LOOSES IN ROUND 2.

Because of its patented Glide Plate, the Quantum Putter "Floats like a Butterfly" over the surface of the green during the putting stroke - no leading edge bite, no toe bite, no heel bite, no trailing edge bounce. Plus the friction is minimized and all edges run parallel to the line of the stroke. It couldn't be better prepared for Round 2 of the Fight.

If

If the contending putter is not capable of good glide, that's it - the putter is no good for the purpose of putting and there is no point in going on with the comparison. On the other hand if the contender passes this test, then click here to go on to Round 3.
