If the contender survives Round 1 and 2, it has good technology, but even the very best technology is no good if it does not fit the golfer. Here are the fitting factors to consider: 1) Shaft Length, 2) Shaft Angle, 3) Grip Size, 4) Head Mass. Most contenders come in only few shaft lengths, usually 33/34/35 inches. But what if you are shorter or taller than average, what then? Do you adjust by standing more upright, or crouching over more - no that would ruin your intuitive putting stroke. So if the contending putter can not be properly fitted to you for length, that's it - the putter is no good for putting no matter how good its technology and there is no point in going on with the fight. Most contenders come in only one shaft angle. But what if your physical stature and stance requires a more upright or more flat shaft angle, what then? Do you adjust the shaft angle by bending the shaft - that's a horrible solution because a bent shaft causes shaft vibration and destroys sweet impact. So if the contending putter can not be properly fitted to you for angle, that's it - the putter is no good for putting no matter how good its technology and there is no point in going on with the fight. Most contenders come in only one grip size. But if your hands are small you would no doubt be more comfortable with a smaller diameter grip; of course, if your hands are big, you will need a bigger grip. So if the contending putter cannot be properly fitted to you for grip size, that's it - the putter is no good for putting, no matter how good its technology and there is no point in going on with the fight. Most contenders come in only one head mass. Some golfers like the feel of a heavy head and of course the added mass increases momentum which helps correct an uncertain stroke; others like the more precise feel of a head having less mass - it is all a matter of personal choice based upon feel. One will simply feel better than another and that is important for precision putting. But if you have no choice in the first place, that can't be good.
If the contending putter is not fitted to its golfer, that's it - the putter is no good for the purpose of putting and there is no point in going on with the comparison. On the other hand if the contender passes this test, then click here to finish the Fight.
