The Quantum Walk

The Quantum Quarter Walk will give your brain the visual input it needs in order to determine the Line (direction) and Touch (power) of the putt that it expects you to execute. The graphic on the right shows the Cup with Flag and the Ball separated by a distance on a contoured green - this distance can be anything; maybe 5 or 10 or 20 or 40 feet, or even more. Our objective is to determine the Line and Touch; more precisely, our objective is to provide visual input to our brain, so that our brain can determine the line and touch of the putt and give precise directions to our body in order to achieve the goal of sinking the putt.  Here’s what you do.

1.  Start at point A (or B) which is about “ball high” on the radius about twice the length of the putt away from the cup (the graphic shows this much easier than it can be explained).

2.  Now with your visual gaze ranging from the ball to the cup with the flag, walk the arc from A to B (or from B to A), concentrating so as to let your brain take in all the visual data.

3.  Next retrace your walk of the arc to let your brain visualize the curve of the putt going from the starting location of the ball to the cup.  Your brain will tell you when you get to point C which is the correct line of the Putt. Stop at point C take a couple practice strokes toward the ball to let your brain visualize the amount of touch you will need to move the ball along its curved path to the cup. Make a mental note of a distant landmark at the end of this line. Now you have established both line and the touch of this putt.

4.  Now walk directly to the ball and take your stance as if you were aiming at the distant landmark and use the touch you established at point C with your practice strokes to execute the putt.

The ball should follow the curved path your brain visualized and drop into the cup.
