“Put a new technology putter in your bag and avoid the embarrassment of poor performance on the golf green and enjoy the pleasure of having the Best and being the Best.”

Thanks for visiting!

Maybe you don't want to buy a new putter right now and you’re just looking around to see what is available - that’s okay, we’re pleased to show you what we have.  Of course, we’d love to make a quantum improvement in your golfing now; so, if you are ready for that now, then click now to...

But we suggest first things first - first you should learn about the new technology of putting and putters; then later you will be able to make an informed purchase decision that you won’t regret.

Don’t worry, you can get along with your old putter a little while longer.  Don't worry, we’re not going to charge you for the information - we earn our living by making putters and not by selling help.  Don't worry, this is not a sales presentation where at the end we’ll try to sell you a book or get your email address so we can put you on an annoying newsletter list. In fact we won’t even ask you for email address.  Frankly, we don’t want to spend a lot of time talking to prospects - it’s just like you’re not wanting to spend a lot of time talking to salesmen.  The only thing we ask is that you don't go out and buy some other putter until after you know what you’re doing. Getting you to that point is the objective we hope to achieve right here and right now.

So put your wallet away, put your thinking cap on, get comfortable and let’s get started. By the time we’re done, you’ll be an expert on putting and putters and then you can take your own advice on how to improve your putting performance and how to select the best putter for that purpose.

There are five ways you can improve putting performance: Putting Judgment, and Putting Technique, and  Putter Fitting, and Putter Technology, and Putter Selection.

Putting Judgment

All ball games require aiming and execution skill but golf putting goes way beyond that -- golf putting also requires well developed judgment.

The air ball games (football, basketball, baseball, tennis, and the fairway game of golf) traverse the ball through air which is a reliable medium that has little effect upon the movement of the ball, therefore these games require little or no adjustment judgment. The rolling ball games (bowling and pool) traverse a flat level smooth surface which also has little effect upon the movement of the ball, therefore they too require no adjustment judgment. But in the rolling ball game of golf putting, the ball traverses a variable contoured surface which has a huge effect upon the movement of the ball, therefore it requires very well developed judgment - in fact the amount of adjustment judgment required in golf putting actually far overshadows the importance of execution skill.

Putting Judgment is a mysterious process that takes place in the brain and if anyone ever try’s to tell you how this works, they will be making it all up -- some mysteries are just not meant to be understood, and this is one of them. Suffice it to say that the brain requires visual sensor input for this process and the output is precise instructions to your body on exactly how it should launch the ball with the use of your putting tool.

How can we improve Putting Judgment?  Three ways: 1) provide the brain with good visual input, 2) use good putting technique and a good putting tool that fits you well so nothing undermines execution, and 3) give your brain lots of good practice so that it can hone its mysterious process to perfection.

Good Visual Input can be provided to your brain by getting into the habit of:  1) carefully watching the roll of the putts of all the other players who are holing out ahead of you, and 2) always doing the “Quantum Walk” before executing your first putt on every hole.

Good Putting Tool -- it will probably surprise you to learn that a golf putter can undermine your putting execution in as many as twenty ways, so putter selection is important because poor execution disenables good judgment.  Of course it is also required that your putting tool fit you well and you know how to use it too.

Good Practice gains good results; bad practice gains bad results. So to improve Putting Judgment, play golf often and when you play be serious about providing your brain with good visual input and use a good putter with a good fit and good technique.

Putting Technique

In the previous topic we learned that our brain can, with sufficient visual input, determine exactly what the line (direction) and touch (power) should be for any putt you are about to make; in fact our brain even visualizes the successful putt taking place ahead of time.  Here in this topic we will learn how the brain’s instruction to the body is to be properly carried out in order to make the putt (technique).

If you take a look at the graphic on the right you will see a drawing originally done by Leonardo de Vince and then incorporated into the logo for the Fifth World Scientific Congress of Golf. This drawing shows that our human body is “bilateral” which means that our left side is the mirror image of our right side and vice versa.

Why is this something we should know? This fact should lead us to conclude that our putting technique should be bilateral too. So now is the time to reject the concept that odd putting stances are good for your putting performance - unless you have a physical disability which can be overcome with an odd stance, a simple bilateral putting stance will always be best.

What is a simple bilateral putting stance? USGA Rules require that you stroke the ball with both feet on one side of the line, so the simplest bilateral putting stance would be to place your feet comfortably separated with your toe tips positioned on a line parallel with your brain’s intended line and back from the ball such that your eye-gaze goes directly down upon the ball, and the stroke should pendulum-like with ball impact occurring at the bottom of the stroke. Simple is always best, so don’t believe that anything about simple bilateral stroke needs to be complicated - no pushing or pulling the shaft, no forward or backward positioning of the ball, and no odd putting stances. The truth is that good stance and good technique is simple stance and simple technique -- it’s what your brain expects.

There is one more thing you need to learn about putting technique and it is this: The putting stroke is a compound pendulum, the upper pendulum having its fulcrum located at your neck and powered by the large muscles of your back and shoulders and upper arms; and lower pendulum having its fulcrum located at your wrists and powered by your smaller wrist muscles . Your wrist muscles are small and intended to do precision work while your larger muscles are intended to do the power work. Putting is far more precision than power, so why would anybody think that it would be a good idea to lock your wrist muscles out of the putting stroke?  So here again, it is best to let a natural stroke occur, use your large muscles for power and let your wrists do the precision work - it is how your brain intends you to stroke  and so it is the natural stroke and the best stroke.

Putter Fitting

In the previous topic, we learned that our body has the responsibility to implement our brain’s directives with respect to successfully accomplishing each putt. We also learned that the best way to do this is with natural bilateral stroke. But bilateral simplicity can only be accomplished effectively with proper putter fitting, and that is our present topic.

Many golfers know themselves well enough to specify these factors without help; but some will want help from their local PGA professional; some will want to “do-it-yourself”; and some will want our PGA Factory Fitter, Grant Westthorp, to help with fitting (see sidebar for help with this).  To everyone, we offer the following guidance:  these are the fitting factors that are critical to putting precision:  1) Grip Size, 2) Shaft Length & Angle, and 3) Head & Shaft Weight.

Grip Size is easy: small hand size, then specify small grip; medium size, then medium grip; and large, a large grip.

Shaft Length and Angle is more complicated: the taller you are and the farther you stand away from the ball, the greater your shaft length and the less your shaft angle will need to be. Conversely, the shorter you are and the closer you stand away from the ball, the lesser your shaft length and the more your shaft angle will need to be.

Head and Shaft Weight is a personal preference; but generally the more total weight, the more will be your stroke stability. Those who stroke mostly with the upper of the two compound pendulums (powered by body/shoulder/arm muscles) will find benefit with back-weighting more so than head-weighting; others who stroke mostly with the lower of the two compound pendulums (powered by wrists) will find benefit with head weighting more so than back-weighting. If you have good muscle control and a sure strong stroke you can get by with less weight; but if your stroke is wavering, then more weight would be very beneficial.

A golf putter which enables you to be fitted perfectly in all three fitting aspects is of great benefit to accomplishing precision putting technique; and obviously precision putting technique is what is needed to accomplish your brain’s putting plans.

Putter Technology

In the previous topics, we learned that our brain formulates the plan for each and every putt and how our body has the responsibility to implement our brain’s direction and that there are three ways the body can be thwarted from successfully accomplishing the brain’s plan: bad putting technique, bad putter fitting, and a bad putter technology. In this topic we are going to address what makes a putter good or bad.

The purpose of the putter is to impact the ball so that the ball is launched as expected, so a good putter will do that and a bad putter will not - it’s really as simple as that.

We expect at least three things from our putter: 1) a bounceless topspin launch, 2) a launch that has no veer off intended line and imparts no sidespin upon the ball, and 3) a launch without unexpected diminished power. Actually there are seventeen other features a putting expert would also be looking for, but we’ll address only the “three biggies” here (if you want a full detailed study of all twenty features click to www.golfputtersbest.com).

Biggie #1. Bounceless Topspin Launch - Upon impact, if the ball is lofted up into the air, it will bounce and be spinning backwards; both detrimental precision putting. Much better would it be for precision putting, if the ball would remain on the surface of the green and be launched with topspin. We are not going into the physics of all this here, but we will show you ultra slow motion videos of the bad ball launch typical of all other putters currently on the market and the good ball launch of the Quantum Putter. Suffice it to say that our Research Scientist, Rick Malm, proved that it is the Dynamic Loft Angle at the instant of Impact that causes good or bad Linear Launch.

Biggie #2. Launch with No Veer and No Sidespin - Whenever the putter head twists open upon ball impact, the ball will be launched with veer off intended line and with sidespin, both being detrimental to precision putting. Again, we are not going into the physics of this here, but suffice it to say all miss-shafted putters will suffer this malady no matter how much MOI their makers tout. Again, our Research Scientist proved that it is proper shafting that prevents head twist and hence ball veer and sidespin, and not Moment of Inertia (MOI). Click here to view the Perfect Launch of the Quantum Putter using the Winey Magnetic Test Platform™.

Biggie#3. Launch with Dependable Power - The unique and patent protected Glide Plate of the Quantum Putter, totally prevents the dreaded leading edge “green bite” and trailing edge head bounce suffered by other putters on the market, and it also minimizes glide friction, all major determents to dependable power. Quantum’s Glide Plate, eliminates all causes of unexpected loss of putting power and so it is very beneficial to precision putting in that it also actually auto-aligns the putter head perpendicular with the intended line as it glides across the surface of the green as a side benefit.  Also, the Quantum Putter has no impact pad and that is beneficial to precision putting in a way most don’t realize - soft impact pads are less energetic than the hard metal surface of the putter head and so they diminish power most of the time, but when the ball impacts either too low or too high (which often happens in the real world) the ball is launched with unexpected additional power by the hard metal margins - so the brain never really knows exactly how much power to direct the body to put into the stroke from one putt to the next and this is very detrimental to touch and therefore to precision putting.

Putter Selection

There are hundreds of putters currently on the market ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous and from cheap to expensive. When selecting a putter, you cannot believe anybody because putter makers and salesmen are notorious for making unfounded claims and touting benefits that really do not exist. And you cannot use the old saying, “you get what you pay for” as a guide either because some of the worst putters currently on the market are the most expensive. To say the least, it is confusing when you don’t know exactly how to select the best putter; but it is easy when you do.

Goeff Mangum, the leading expert on putting, lists most of the putters currently available on his website called the Putting Zone. He calls the Quantum Putter his “Hot Stick” and he features it in his popular book on putting entitled, “Optimal Putting” and he uses his Quantum Putter in his demonstration/training seminars.  George Hibbard, a leading expert on golf, principal coach at Perfect Impact Golf Academy and author of numerous books and videos on golfing technique is especially dear to us because he was the first PGA Professional to buy a Quantum Putter back when we were just getting started. Grant Westthorp, a leading expert on golf, principal of SimpliGolf System and author of several books and videos on golf technique and moderator of Best Putter Blog bought a Quantum Putter for his own use and became so excited about our new technology that he became our exclusive authorized distributor in Australia.

The respected resource, GolfPuttersBest.com, has provided detailed analysis and conclusive evidence on exactly how to select the best golf putter and they have awarded Quantum the honor of being the MOST BENEFICIAL PUTTER and they also awarded Quantum the honor of being BEST VALUE PREMIUM PUTTER.

You can rely on what other people say and think or you can become an expert yourself - obviously it is best to become an expert yourself and you can do that visiting every tab of this website and if you want even more detail going to www.golfputtersbest.com to complete your “degree in golf putter technology”.

Conclusion

The most important club in your bag is your putter - it is used more than all the rest of the clubs put together and it is the club that you play during crunch time - as they say, you play golf on the fairway, but you win on the green. So if you want to do your best in the game of golf, obviously you should be using the best putter available.

Quantum Client James Cole, a golf market entrepreneur, says,

"I was the one who brought MetalWoods™  to the market and ever since I sold my company to TaylorMade™, I have always said that if I were to go back into the business it would be with a putter rather than the other clubs in a full set.

I understand perfectly what you said about bending/breaking the shaft, and your analogy about heel shafting tennis racquets made the point about how ridiculous it is to heel shaft putters.

I look forward to using my new Quantum Putter and I'll be happy to give you whatever help and advise I can from my experience as a golf club entrepreneur."
